WEEK 53
HOME
STAINLESS STEEL WORK TABLE // The Hamptons are a funny place. While undeniably luxurious, vestiges of the locale’s hardworking heritage remain — and not just in the salt-worn farms and docks that dot the topography. Perhaps that’s ideal that draws us there: it’s a place to spend a few weeks cosplaying as salty villager… with $100 (locally caught) lobster salads and multi-million dollar beach cottages to keep you grounded, of course. Regardless, I can appreciate how the luxury brands that have followed their clients out of the city have appropriated coastal utility — rope, canvas, bead board, stainless steel — and added a few zeroes. Take The Row, for example, which had these super simple stainless steel work tables, sisal wall-to-wall carpet, and tables that, to the untrained eye, looked like plywood. Yet, it felt right. Not just for the brand’s outpost in Amagansett, but for the kind of pared back life those who visit the Hamptons hope the embody — even if just for a few days.
THE END: MONTAUK, NY // I try to always buy a coffee table book when I’m traveling to commemorate the trip.
HANDWOVEN TOTE // Handwoven totes ruled in the Hamptons. I love all of mine so much, they’re great for corralling dog toys, blankets, etc.
TEAK CHAIRS // The garden seating at Il Buco Vita has given me so many new ideas for our outdoor space, all centered around teak.
TABLE
BLUE PHEASANT FOOD COVER // The hottest item according to the Hamptons. It was in all the stores (e.g. Clic) and hospitality concepts (e.g. Duryea’s Sunset Cottages)
GREEN SPLATTERWARE BASIN // While in Amagansett, we popped into the Il Buco Vita boutique before dining at their attached restaurant. Both are worth the visit, but if you don’t have time for a full meal, grab a coffee from their café and browse the handmade wares, which are truly stunning but never precious. I only wish I’d purchased a little something from their new “Marea” Collection.
AERIN VASE // I finally found the best — actually even better! — alternative to this Aerin vase that I’ve been eying for a while. If you’re in Amagansett, head to Flowers by Beth and grab as many as you can. I brought two home via carry-on!
ARTIFICIAL HYDRANGEAS // It’s not the East Coast without hydrangeas. And while I’m not one for artificial flowers (it feels wrong), these look lovely.
ODDBIRD BLANC DE BLANCS NON-ALCOHOLIC SPARKLING WHITE WINE // While in New York, I was blessed to celebrate five years of sobriety and, while it may not be right for others in recovery, it was fun (albeit very ironic) to celebrate with a non-alcoholic wine. I was blown away by NA offerings — almost every hotel bar and restaurant we visited served non-alcoholic options. In fact, the Sunset Cottages at Duryea’s exclusively offered NA spirits, wines, and beers, which was a lovely surprise. I almost hesitate to use the word “inclusive,” but, at the very least, it was exciting to see that those of us who can’t (or choose not to) drink are being recognized as a viable consumer base. If you’re exploring sobriety, please please please feel free to reach out to me directly!
APOTHECARY
CROWN AFFAIR TEXTURIZING FOAM // Have had my eyes on this texturizing foam and after seeing it in the Sag Harbor Goop store (very pretty, by the way), I’m sold.
RRL CANDLE // Smells so good.
CLOSET
BRETON STRIPED SHIRT // Nautical stripes still rule. Did you know that, historically speaking, sailors wore striped styles as it was easier to spot them if they fell into the sea?
NEW BALANCE 993s // We flew into New York City and spent a little less than 24 hours enjoying its energy (and shopping and food) before heading out to the Hamptons. In that time, we quite literally walked 14 miles. While I opted for a different style, I’ll be buying these, which my friend CC wore.
XIRENA DRESS // Popped into Henry Lehr (actually, they have several locations across the Hamptons) to try on this Xirena dress. It definitely came home with me. It’ll be perfect for the last weeks of hot, humid weather.
LE PLIAGE XL TRAVEL TOTE // I always sneak one of these foldable travel totes into my carryon to accommodate extra purchases. This time, it definitely came in handy.
MEMOBOTTLE // While on the subject of beverages, we were gifted this Memo Bottle, a slim, reusable water bottle that’s chic and practical as hell. No thicker than a good book, it fits easily into bags for a, well, slim fit against laptops and books.
CAMP SOCKS // The weather was fabulously chilly and I enjoyed having cozy camp socks!
STUDS // Adding a few new piercings to my ear situation has been on my list and I was delighted to finally have the opportunity to try Studs, a brilliant ear-piercings-only concept with locations nationwide. The experience was truly fabulous. I loved their jewelry options and was in and out in under 20-minutes with minimal pain. I opted for this marquis diamond and green CZ stud.
ART
From the abstract collection at The Marlton Hotel to those on display at Buck Mason storefronts art was, in a very literal way, everywhere. I was so inspired by the way art informed the hospitality and retail spaces we visited — it was so intentional, so clearly chosen to enhance the overall experience of the space. And it’s not all unattainably expensive pieces. In fact, we were told that the creative team at Ralph Lauren will often source publicly traded images (like, off the internet) then just have them printed and framed well. Here are a few pieces I’m eyeing…
